Tobago is a 25 mile boat ride from it’s more famous twin island of Trinidad which has a bigger party scene and a vibrant night-life culture, but it nonetheless has plenty to offer holidaymakers of all ages and with differing tastes.
It’s surrounded by beautiful, sandy beaches and clear, clean waters which are perfect for snorkelling, swimming, diving and wind-surfing. The island’s coral reefs were a favourite haunt of the famous Jacques Cousteau and the Buccoo Reef if one of the most spectacular offering a plethora of marine life. You may prefer to spot a whale or turtles from a glass-bottomed boat and there are many operators running these services. If you need to stay out of the sun for a while, then sample some of the local Creole and Caribbean food at the many beach side cafes and restaurants and wile away the time sipping a fruity cocktail or two.
If you tire of the sea, then Tobago has a wonderful inland rainforest and you can hike across the paths and trails until you reach the terraced pools of the awe-inspiring Argyle Falls. There is also abundant bird life with over 200 unique species to spot. For history lovers, there are ancient forts to explore and for those wanting to just soak up the laid-back atmosphere of the island, then wander around the quaint and picturesque fishing villages at Scarborough and Charlotteville.
