St Valentine’s Day has passed for the year but if you are still looking for something to do to surprise the love of your love, you could try whisking them off to the city of love – Paris.
As the weather becomes warmer and spring bulbs bloom, Paris is very popular for an Easter break for couples. Easy to reach from the UK, either by air or by rail via the comfortable and speedy Eurostar service, you can be walking along the wide boulevards of the Champs Elysées, within a few hours.
There’s plenty to see and do in Paris. If you want to take your partner up the Eiffel Tower, try either visiting as soon as the ticket office opens or later in the afternoon to avoid spending too long queuing. Then, head off towards the Montmartre area of the city and visit the beautiful Sacré Coeur basilica and wander around the narrow streets nearby, stopping to watch the street artists in the Place du Tertre or watch the world go by whilst sipping strong French expresso coffee from the terrace of one of the many cafes. A trip to Notre Dame cathedral is also a must. Look up at the beautiful stained glass rosary windows and admire the skill of past artisans. When you have finished walking around the cathedral, you can then take your loved one on a boat trip along the Seine on one of the many bâteaux mouches moored on the bank.
