Holiday ideas for January and February

Everyone is well aware that January can be the most difficult month of the year. Bank balances are still recovering from Christmas expenditure, days are still long, dark and dreary and no-one wants to go out for fear of upsetting the New Year’s diet or detox programme!

However, if you do have some money to spare and fancy getting away for a few days, maybe as long as a week, then you may be enticed by the following suggestions:

Take a city break and explore the sights and famous monuments of some of Europe’s grand cities. If you are willing to brace the Winter cold, then consider exploring Amsterdam or Berlin. Both are easy to reach with the budget airlines. If you are searching for some bright sunny skies and a little more warmth than the UK can offer, then venture a little further afield to Rome, Florence or Barcelona.

You may want to consider a skiing holiday. This is not a cheap option though prices are better if you travel outside of school holidays. For four people travelling together, you may save money by hiring an apartment or chalet and travelling by car via the Channel tunnel.

A relaxing spa break weekend may just be what you need to ward off the Winter blues and set you up for the coming Spring. Many hotels offer very competitive rates at this time of year, especially if you are able to stay mid-week.
