For Brits France is just a stones throw away, so makes it a very convenient location to visit when you want to go abroad.
To make the most of visit, why not go on a road trip?
The North – Dunkerque offers a bustling atmosphere and has an array of war memorials, and just further inland, the lovely village of Cassel is a rare example of a Flemish hill settlement. St-Omer has a selection of excellent war museum. La Coupole and Montreuil-sur-Mer are not too far from here and are loaded with charm and interest.

Champagne and the Ardennes – Champagne is most renowned for the bubbly stuff, the region’s capital – the cathedral city of Reims is where most people are drawn to with its vineyards and cellars. Reims has some of the most extravagant champagne houses, the caves beneath them are notable for their vaulted ceilings and mass of bottles.
For something a bit quieter, visit the town of Épernay, which is a smaller town set in the scenic heart of the region. It is dominated by an avenue of champagne maisons.
